Window Tinting

Glass roofs look incredible — until July in Houston. Ceramic tint tames the greenhouse effect in a Model 3, Model Y or any EV: a cooler cabin, less battery spent on A/C in summer traffic, and zero interference with your car's signals, cameras or keyless entry.

The EV difference

Why EVs Tint Different in Houston

Teslas and EVs carry more glass than almost anything else on Houston roads — and every square inch of it is collecting Gulf Coast sun. Here, tint isn't just styling. It's cabin comfort, interior protection and summer range in one install.

The glass problem

A Model 3 or Model Y pairs a full glass roof with one of the biggest windshields on the road. Factory glass cuts some UV, but infrared heat still pours through — which is why a parked Tesla turns into a greenhouse by noon in Houston.

The range math

In a gas car, the A/C sips from the engine. In an EV, every minute of compressor time comes straight out of the battery. A cooler cabin means the A/C works less — less battery spent on climate in summer traffic, more of your charge spent actually driving.

Interior protection

White and vegan-leather interiors look amazing until UV gets to work on them. Ceramic film blocks up to 99% of UV — slowing the fading, drying and discoloration the Texas sun inflicts on seats, screens and trim.

Sensor & signal safe

Ceramic film is metal-free. Connectivity, GPS, keyless entry, TPMS and toll tags all work exactly as before — none of the interference older metalized films were known for.

Cameras stay clear

Autopilot and Sentry cameras look through their own dedicated glass zones. Our patterns are cut to leave every camera area untouched, so nothing about how your car sees changes.

Know your glass

Tint Notes, Model by Model

Every Tesla has its own glass quirks, and we cut for them constantly at our EaDo, Houston studio. Here's what matters on yours.

Tesla Model 3

A glass roof plus a big single-piece rear glass that curves in two directions at once. That rear panel is a one-shot, heat-shrink job — exactly where computer-cut patterns and a patient installer earn their keep.

Tesla Model Y

The panoramic glass roof is one of the largest glass panels on any production car — and the most-requested tint in Houston. Roof film takes the sting out of overhead sun without giving up the open-sky look.

Tesla Model S & Model X

Big canopy glass up front — the Model X windshield stretches far overhead — plus glass roofs behind. More glass area than a 3 or Y, and even more reason to tame the heat load.

Cybertruck & every other EV

Cybertruck's huge, flat glass panels tint beautifully. Rivian R1T and R1S, Lucid Air, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia EV — all welcome. If it's electric and it has glass, we have a pattern for it.

Coverage

What We Tint on an EV

Sides + Rear

The classic package — every side window plus the rear glass in ceramic film, matched to a Texas-legal shade up front and as dark as you like behind.

Panoramic Glass Roof

The biggest heat source on a glass-roof Tesla. Roof film knocks down overhead infrared while keeping the view of the sky you bought the car for.

Windshield

Texas keeps windshields clear below the AS-1 line — see the windshield rules. That means a legal sun strip up top, or clear ceramic film across the full windshield for heat rejection with no visible darkening.

The Full EV Package

Sides, rear and glass roof in one visit — one film line, one consistent look, and the biggest total cut in cabin heat. The package most Tesla owners leave with.

Street-legal, confirmed

Texas Tint Law for Your Tesla

Same rules as every passenger car — Texas regulates tint by VLT, the percentage of light the film and glass let through. The short version:

Front side windows

Must allow more than 25% VLT through — film plus factory glass combined.

Windshield

Non-reflective tint above the AS-1 line only. Below it, the street-legal move is clear ceramic film.

Back & rear glass

Any darkness — glass roof included — as long as the car has dual side mirrors. Every Tesla does.

The full rulebook

VLT stacking with factory glass, medical exemptions, reflectivity limits — the complete Texas section lives in our Window Tint guide →, and a full 50-state tint law guide is on the way. Either way, we confirm the legal limit for your exact car before any film goes on.

Craftsmanship

How We Tint an EV

The same precision process from our Window Tint guide — tuned for cars with giant touchscreens, vegan-leather interiors and glass everywhere.

1

Interior Protection Prep

Touchscreens, dash and vegan-leather surfaces are covered before any water or tools come out. EV interiors are electronics-dense, and we treat them that way.

2

Computer-Cut Patterns

Every panel — glass roof included — is plotter-cut from your car's exact pattern. No blades near your glass, seals or camera zones.

3

Heat-Shrink to the Curve

Big compound-curved panels like a Model 3 rear glass or a panoramic roof are heat-shrunk so the film relaxes into the curve instead of wrinkling.

4

Apply & Squeegee

Film is set with a slip solution, positioned precisely, then squeegeed edge to edge to push out every drop of water and air.

5

Edge & Defroster Detail

Edges are trimmed tight to the seals and inspected under raking light. Rear defroster lines are worked gently — film sits safely over them.

6

Cure

Keep the windows up for 3–5 days while the adhesive cures. Light haze or tiny water pockets are normal and clear on their own — on the roof too.

Tesla & EV Tint FAQ

Does tint affect Autopilot or my Tesla's cameras?+

No. Tesla's cameras look through their own dedicated glass zones — the windshield camera cluster sits behind its own area near the mirror, and the pillar and body cameras have separate covers. Our patterns are cut to leave every camera zone untouched, so Autopilot, Sentry Mode and dashcam footage look exactly the same after tint.

Will tint interfere with connectivity, GPS or keyless entry?+

Not with the film we install. Ceramic film is metal-free, so it doesn't block signals the way older metalized films could. Connectivity, GPS, keyless entry, TPMS and toll tags all work exactly as before.

Should I tint the glass roof?+

Yes — on a glass-roof Tesla it's the single biggest heat source in the car. The factory glass blocks some UV but still lets serious infrared through. Ceramic roof film cuts that overhead heat load dramatically while keeping the see-through look.

Does tint really help EV range in summer?+

It helps in a simple, honest way: the A/C runs off the battery, and a cooler cabin means the A/C works less. Less battery spent on climate in Houston summer traffic leaves more charge for driving. We won't promise a specific number — but the A/C load is real, and so is the difference a cooler cabin makes.

Can you tint a Tesla windshield?+

Texas allows non-reflective tint only above the AS-1 line on street cars. Beyond that legal sun strip, the option we recommend is clear ceramic windshield film — it rejects heat and UV across the whole windshield while staying visually clear and street-legal.

How long does a Model Y take to tint?+

Most EV tint appointments are done within a few hours. Adding the panoramic roof adds time, and big single-piece glass is slow, careful work by design. We'll give you an exact time window when you book — and the car stays inside our EaDo studio the whole time.

Is tint safe for the rear glass defroster?+

Yes. Window film is designed to be installed over defroster lines and doesn't affect how they heat. The care point is gentle squeegee work during install and never scraping the lines — which is exactly why this is a job for patterns and patience, not razor blades on the glass.
