Ceramic Coating for Katy Drivers
Katy is a commuting town, and the commute is I-10. That stretch has been one construction project after another for years, with aggregate trucks running beside you and grit coming off the road. Add the Grand Parkway and its tolls, and a Katy car piles up highway miles quickly. A ceramic coating won't stop a rock chip. What it will do is keep grit, road film and bugs from bonding to the paint, so the car comes clean with a wash.
A lot of what we see from Katy is family SUVs, trucks and Teslas. Most of them sleep in a garage in a master-planned neighborhood, so the paint's real problem is the drive, not the driveway. That's good news for a coating. It mostly has to handle the highway, and it lasts longer on a car that spends its nights indoors.
What Katy does to your paint
Aggregate grit. Gravel and sand trucks shed fine grit at highway speed, and it collects on the lower doors and the back of the vehicle. Every dry wipe drags it across the clear coat. A coated surface lets go of it with a rinse.
Work-zone slurry. When it rains, construction zones turn to muddy slurry, and tires throw it up the sides of the car. Once it dries on bare paint it takes scrubbing to remove, and scrubbing adds swirls. A coating keeps it from bonding in the first place.
Chips a coating can't stop. The rock chips from I-10 are a job for paint protection film. A common setup is film on the front, where the chips land, and a coating over the whole car, film included.
What it costs
Ceramic coating starts at $800, and graphene starts at $850. If you want the chips handled too, film starts at $995 for a partial front and $1,300 for a full front, and we can quote the film and the coating together. Getting here from Katy
We're at 5002 Navigation Blvd in EaDo, just east of downtown. From Katy it's a straight run east on I-10, usually about 30 minutes outside rush hour. Plan on dropping the car off, since the coating only goes on after the paint is washed, decontaminated and corrected. If you can, skip the morning rush on I-10 for the drop-off. Is it worth driving in from Katy for a coating?
That's your call, but the drive is the smallest part of the job. The prep is what separates a coating that lasts from one that fails early, and it's the part that takes time. You make the drive twice; we handle the rest.
Can you coat a Tesla?
Yes. A Tesla gets the same process as any other car: wash, decontamination, correction where it's needed, then the coating. If you're adding film to the front, we can quote both together.
Do I still have to wash it?
Yes. A coating makes washing easier, not optional. Use a pH-neutral soap, a soft mitt and a clean microfiber to dry, and skip the brush tunnels.
