Window Tint in Katy — Houston, TX

Window Tint for Katy Drivers

A Katy commute into Houston points you at the sun twice a day. The morning run east on I-10 heads into the sunrise, and the drive home heads into the sunset. A lot of what we see from Katy is family SUVs, trucks and Teslas, and plenty of them carry a toll tag for the Westpark Tollway or the Grand Parkway.

Many Katy cars sleep in an HOA garage, so the heat doesn't come from the driveway. It comes from the drive, and from the open parking lot at the other end of it. The right film keeps the cabin cooler on the road and slows the heat build-up while the car sits at work.

What Katy does to your glass and cabin

Sun at both ends of I-10. Morning and evening, the sun sits low at the end of the Katy Freeway and pours in through the windshield and the front doors. Texas won't let the front side glass go darker than 25%, so the film has to do the work the shade can't. Our top ceramic film rejects up to about 88% of infrared heat.

Toll tags that still read. Metalized film can interfere with toll tags, GPS and phone signal. Carbon and ceramic have no metal in them, so the tag you use on the Westpark and the Grand Parkway works the same after tint as it did before.

Back seats and glass roofs. If kids ride in the second or third row, they sit right against the side glass. Texas has no darkness limit on the back side windows, and the rear glass can go any darkness when the car has outside mirrors on both sides. On a glass-roof Tesla, the roof is the biggest heat source in the car, and roof film takes a lot of that overhead heat out.

What it costs

On a sedan, carbon film starts at $300, ceramic at $400 and nano ceramic at $550. A three-row SUV or a crew-cab truck has more glass, so it prices higher. Send the year, make and model through the free quote form and we'll usually reply with a real number the same day.

Film tiers and the install process are on the window tint page. The Houston tint cost guide puts the three films side by side, and Tesla and EV tint covers glass roofs.

Getting here from Katy

We're at 5002 Navigation Blvd in EaDo, just east of downtown. From Katy it's a straight run east on I-10, usually about 30 minutes outside rush hour. Most tint jobs take a few hours, so a morning drop-off is usually ready that afternoon. You'll get a firm timeline with your quote. Afterward, keep the windows up for three to five days while the film cures.

Katy FAQ

What's the darkest I can go on the front doors?

25% VLT, measured through the film and the factory glass together, with no more than 25% reflectance. We meter your glass before the film goes on so the net number is legal. The full rules are on our Texas tint law page.

Does tint help a Tesla's range in the summer?

In a simple way. The A/C runs off the battery, and a cooler cabin means it works less, which leaves more charge for driving. We won't promise a specific number. There's more on tint and EV range.

Will a windshield strip stop the glare on the drive home?

It helps when the sun is above your visor. When the sun is dead ahead on the horizon, the visor still does that job. A legal strip stays above the AS-1 line or the top 5 inches, whichever is closer to the top, at 25% VLT or lighter and non-reflective.
