Paint Protection Film for Katy Drivers
If you live in Katy and work anywhere near downtown, the front of your car spends a lot of its life on I-10. The Katy Freeway is a construction corridor with a steady flow of aggregate trucks, and plenty of Katy drives pick up Grand Parkway toll miles as well. Paint protection film (PPF) is a clear urethane layer that takes those rock hits so the paint underneath doesn't chip.
A lot of what we see from Katy is family SUVs, trucks and Teslas, and a lot of them spend the night in an HOA garage. So the damage happens at highway speed on the way to work, and the money belongs on the front of the car, not the whole car.
What Katy does to your paint
Aggregate trucks. Gravel, sand and crushed rock move along I-10 all day. Loads shed, tires pick up loose stones, and anything following close takes the spray. On bare paint each of those hits is a chip through the clear coat. On film, the worst case is usually a small mark in the film, and the paint under it stays intact.
Work zones. Construction on the Katy Freeway leaves grit, loose gravel and broken asphalt in the lanes and on the shoulders. At highway speed that debris sandblasts the bumper, the mirrors and the leading edge of the hood. It's why a commuter car can look tired up front while the doors and roof still look new.
The glass. The same stones that chip a hood crack windshields. If you've already replaced one, ask about windshield film when you request a quote. It's a separate job, and the film takes the hit instead of the glass.
What it costs
Partial front starts at $995 and covers the full front bumper, part of the hood and fenders, the side mirrors and the headlights. Full front starts at $1,300 and covers the full hood, full fenders, front bumper, side mirrors and headlights, with the edges wrapped. For an I-10 commute we usually point people to full front, because at highway speed the whole hood takes hits, including the part a partial kit leaves bare. Bigger SUVs and trucks quote above the starting price.

We're at 5002 Navigation Blvd in EaDo, just east of downtown. From Katy it's a straight run east on I-10, usually about 30 minutes outside rush hour. Film isn't a wait-in-the-lobby job. Katy FAQ
I'm on I-10 every day. Is partial front enough?
It protects the full front bumper, part of the hood and fenders, the side mirrors and the headlights, where the most hits land. But on a daily I-10 run the rest of the hood gets hit too, and partial front still leaves a film edge partway up it. If the car is a keeper, full front is the better spend.
Do you put film on Teslas?
Yes. Film is cut from a pattern for your exact model, the same as any other car. Our Tesla PPF and coating page has the details.
My SUV already has chips on the hood. Can you still film it?
Yes, but film won't hide chips that are already there. It stops new ones. Send close-up photos and we'll tell you honestly how the front will look once it's covered.
