Paint Protection Film for Memorial Drivers
From Memorial, the drive to our shop is in on I-10, the Katy Freeway, or a slower run down Memorial Drive along Buffalo Bayou. The freeway is where the chips come from. It carries heavy traffic, and heavy traffic means debris at close range. Paint protection film (PPF) takes those hits on a clear layer over the paint.
A lot of what we see from Memorial is luxury SUVs, exotics and weekend cars. Many live in climate-controlled garages, so the paint is in good shape at home. That changes the question. For a daily SUV it's partial front or full front. For a weekend car it might be film, a coating, or both.
What Memorial does to your paint
Katy Freeway traffic. I-10 inside the Beltway is dense, and dense traffic means following trucks closely. Stones come off tires and trailers at short range, and the bumper and the hood's leading edge take them first.
Bayou canopy. The big trees along Buffalo Bayou and Memorial Drive drop sap and shelter birds. Both etch bare clear coat if they sit. Film puts a layer between them and the paint, as long as you clean it off quickly.
Weekend cars. A low-mile car that only comes out on Sundays doesn't face daily chips. But one highway trip can mark a nose you've kept perfect for years. For those cars, full front, or even full body, is about keeping the paint original.
What it costs
Partial front starts at $995 and covers the full front bumper, part of the hood and fenders, the side mirrors and the headlights. Full front starts at $1,300 and covers the full hood, full fenders, front bumper, side mirrors and headlights. For a daily I-10 driver either can work, and full front avoids the film edge on the hood. Full body is quoted per car and is mainly for exotics and cars you plan to keep original. Exotics with complex front ends quote above the starting price.

Getting here from Memorial
We're at 5002 Navigation Blvd in EaDo, just east of downtown. From Memorial it's in on I-10, usually about 20 minutes outside rush hour. Plan to drop the car off. We wash and decontaminate the paint, cut the film to your car's pattern, then lay, form and seal each panel. You'll get a firm timeline with your quote.

My weekend car barely leaves the garage. Film or coating?
If it never sees the freeway, a coating is usually the better spend. If it goes on highway drives, even occasionally, film on the front keeps one stone from ruining original paint. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Is full body PPF overkill?
For most cars, yes. Full front covers where the damage lands. Full body makes sense for exotics, collector cars and owners who want every panel perfect at resale. It's quoted per car.
Will film change how my paint looks?
Gloss film is made to disappear on the paint. From normal distance you won't see it. Up close you can find the edges if you look for them.
