Paint Protection Film (PPF) in Clear Lake — Houston, TX

Paint Protection Film for Clear Lake Drivers

Clear Lake runs on the Gulf Freeway. Coming into town means I-45 north, and local miles on Bay Area Boulevard and NASA Parkway add more. That's steady freeway exposure for the front of the car. Paint protection film (PPF) is the clear layer that takes the chips on the bumper, hood and mirrors so the paint under it stays whole.

A lot of what we see from Clear Lake is NASA-corridor commuters and the trucks and SUVs that tow boats. Many live in garages. Some sit at marinas or in open storage. Film solves the rock-chip problem. Salt air is a separate problem, and we'll be honest about which tool fits which.

What Clear Lake does to your paint

Gulf Freeway gravel. I-45 between Clear Lake and downtown sees plenty of truck traffic, and gravel and debris fly at freeway speed. The bumper and the leading edge of the hood take most of it. The mirrors take the rest.

Ramp and marina lots. Boat ramps and marina lots aren't always paved, and tires throw whatever is on them at the rocker panels and lower doors. On a tow vehicle that happens every time the boat goes in. Rocker panels can be added to a front package.

Salt air. Humid, salty air speeds up oxidation on anything exposed. Film protects the panels it covers, but it isn't a whole-car salt barrier. For that, a ceramic coating over the paint, and over the film, is the better tool.

What it costs

Partial front from $995 covers the full front bumper, part of the hood and fenders, the side mirrors and the headlights. Full front from $1,300 covers the full hood, full fenders, front bumper, side mirrors and headlights, with no edge line across the hood. For a daily I-45 commute, full front is the one we'd pick. Tow vehicles tend to be trucks or large SUVs, and they price above the starting number because of their size.

Film options are Inozetek inoCLEAR, our standard, and inoCLEAR+, the premium film with self-healing. If you want film up front and a coating against the salt, read PPF vs ceramic. Getting here from Clear Lake

Spec'd Studios is at 5002 Navigation Blvd in EaDo, just east of downtown. From Clear Lake it's up I-45, usually about 30 minutes outside rush hour. Plan to leave the car. The paint is washed and decontaminated first, then the film is cut to your vehicle's pattern and laid and sealed one panel at a time. You'll get a firm timeline with your quote.

Clear Lake FAQ

Does PPF stop salt air damage?

On the panels it covers, the film sits between the salt and your paint. It doesn't cover the whole car unless you pay for full body. If salt is the worry, pair film up front with a coating everywhere else.

Can you protect the rockers on my tow vehicle?

Yes. Rocker panels can be added to a front package. On a truck that tows, that's usually the next place we'd go after the front.

Do you do boats too?

Yes. We put clear film on hulls where they take dock rash and fender rub, and we also tint, correct and coat boats. See marine protection.
